As a british woman living in Jamaica, I do find it hard dealing with the Jamaican attitude, of having an answer for everything and not taking responsibility and the soon come, not having respect for peoples time! You mention shopping... Oh how I miss Tescos and the local high street shopping, not to mention the January sales..:)
But that is the price I pay, to have the beautiful beaches of Jamaica and the country drives and all the wonderful fresh fruits.. guess we can't have it all... We can always take a trip or two back to London, once or twice a year, having the best of both worlds..

I loved this article! I recently moved to Ocho Rios as a single white female and have no desire to "get attached" to anyone here. But those boys in Ochi town make it HARD to walk! I rarely leave my neighborhood, which is about 10 minutes outside of Ochi town center but sometimes I need to go into town for obvious reasons. The hassling is hilarious but annoying because I'm sure they think I'm a tourist who just came off a cruise ship. No I don't want to buy a painting, nor get my hair braided, etc.

But honestly what is anyone going to do about it? It's the hustler's livelihoods.

Gotta love Jamaica. :-)

Yes, the questions are much more about finding out who you know in common. I'd theorize that the reason this is so prevalent in Jamaica is because we're a small island, and Kingston is an even smaller city - everyone has someone in common. The degree of separation between people is so drastically reduced from the degree in the US that while it's not useful in the US in general for people to know what elementary school you went to, with Jamaicans you can meet a total stranger and find out that you went to school with their sister (true story) or their cousin (true story), or your dad's friend went to the school with them (true story).

I am moving to Jamaica in a couple in 6 weeks time. I have just found out in order to send my House contents to be shipped, I will need a Residential licence. I need urgent advice on this. The shipping company will not ship out my goods until this is completed. I have tried to contact the Jamaican consolate in London but can't get to speak to anyone who knows what their talking about. Can I arrive in Jamaica and purchase a house and then apply in Jamaica for residency. My Mother & Father were born there and also have family out there. Do you know how long the process will take
