Hello Anesta,
Thanks for dropping by and leaving a note.
I totally agree that many more Jamaicans should travel and see the world, but economics rarely allows it.The ones who do travel should be more honest with people when they come back to Jamaica for a visit, as I often see them with all the brand new clothes they purchase to " come home" complaining about every single thing.
I heard one guy in the grocery store over Christmas " lord God what a way these stores smell, you would never find that occurring in America and on and on he went " I eventually opened my mouth and said, "that is so not true where do you live" as there are some places that would smell if they sold the same types of things. You need to fly back to Brooklyn then...Silence is what I was met wit, as he knew he was chatting crap and showing off... Why oh why......
If only life could be simple for way more people ???

My research to right a book on how to depict change in such a dynamic culture such as Jamaica, I discovered this blog.
Glad to know these sentiments are not just my own. I too dream of coming home, I refuse to give up on my land. They tied my navel string in Portland and I will come home one day. It is no doubt sad to have these experiences when we visit, but i refuse to give up. I have loved ones there in JA that has some beautiful children in my family. For them and myself I keep trying. What has gone wrong in JA is no doubt a fundamental disregard for human rights. Due to the long term economic struggle the people have forgotten how rich they are, they have forgotten how to be grateful for the priceless things they do have. Sometimes I wish they all come to the US and realize even though there are some opportunities here, there is very little peace of mind.
I bet they would realize then how good they have it.

Thanks for stopping by and choosing to leave your note.

I tell people almost weekly, that I have an incredible love hate relationship with Jamaica.
I have days that I absolutely love this country and days I have huge ???? about why is a place with so, so much potential in such crisis, debt and decay.

The weekends that we drive out to the country are the best,as we bring our bikes and wonder around the small villages, eating fresh fruit, fish and vegatables.

Last weekend we toured, Galina & Port Maria on bikes, and the coast was so beautiful and still at 7am, but then with a closer look the town needed much work to bring it back to life and create economic opportunites for the people.

In time I told myself, in time.

Great blog entry. I'm Canadian and considering moving to Jamaica to be with my family. Toronto has just had its first snow fall and I'm dreaming of sitting in my parents backyard or sitting at the sea side. As far as societal ills are concerned I'd suggest we start looking at the root causes. The IMF has structured a decay in Jamaica as it does in every country it loans money too. Its a horrible blight on humanity and the reason for so much bloodshed. Watch the movie "Life and Debt" if you havent alraedy. Keep smiling
